Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. — Psalm 118:26
Mass Readings: Isaiah 26:1-6/Matthew 7:24-27
Today Jesus gives us the familiar example of the house built on rock vs. the house built on sand. The latter, built by a foolish man, didn’t fare well when “the rains fell, the torrents came, the winds blew and lashed against his house.” No disrespect to the Lord intended, but if I constructed a house, it wouldn’t matter what it was built on, and it wouldn’t take torrents and winds to bring it down. A shower and a breeze would do.
But what about the spiritual house I’ve built? It’s now older. Older homes are prone to things that need refurbishing, refinishing, replacing, or “re-whatevering.” The same is true of spiritual houses. They also develop things that need “re-whatevering.” Advent would be a good time to do this. After all, Company’s coming for Christmas.
Prayer: St. Joseph, master carpenter and builder, help me tune up my spiritual house.
